A Blight Card is a card that holds the Blight pieces Blight that are not on the Island. It starts on the Healthy Island side and may flip to the Blighted side during the course of the game if all the Blight pieces from the card are removed.

Healthy Island. While this side of the Blight Card is face up, the Island is Healthy. If this side has no more Blight on it, flip the card over.

Blighted Island. While this side of the Blight Card is face up, the Island is Blighted. When the card flips to this side, refill the Blight Card to the new amount of Blight shown on the card. If all Blight on the Blighted side runs out, the players lose.

Still Healthy Island.A few Blight Cards from expansions say “Still Healthy” on the opposite side and have a small Blight pool. When this Blight pool runs out, you do not lose – instead you draw a new Blight Card and go straight to its reverse side (which may be “Blighted” or “Still Healthy”).

A Blight Card cannot be flipped back over to the healthy side, even if Blight is removed from the Island. Flipping the Blight Card represents the Island reaching a point of no return; the lands have taken irreparable damage and nothing can be done to heal the Island back to its original state.

=Setup= Take a random Blight Card and place it on the Blight Space on the Invader Board, “Healthy Island” side up, without looking at the back. Place the number of Blight specified on the card (generally 2 per player), + 1. This 1 extra blight only goes on the Healthy side of the card (you do not add another +1 Blight to it if the card flips to the Blighted Island side).

No Blight Card
If you are not using a Blight Card, use the instructions printed on the Blight Space of the Invader Board instead. Place the shown amount of Blight onto the space from the box (5 Blight per player), +1.

Solo Play
Blight Cards which have only 2 Blight per player on the Blighted Island side can be especially nasty when playing solo. If you get one of them in a single-player game, you may choose to draw a random replacement from among the unused Blight Cards.

"Still Healthy" Blight Cards {{GameComplexity|2}}
Because you might need more than one Blight Card, simply put the entire shuffled stack of Blight Cards atop the Blight space, and use the top one. Should you need another, just use the next one in the stack.

Playing with Events {{GameComplexity|3}}
When playing with the Event Deck, playing with a Blight Card is required rather than optional, as many cards in the Event Deck depend on it.

  • Events happen AFTER any Blighted Island effect and before any Earned Fear Cards.

Playing without Events {{GameComplexity|2}}
When not playing with the Event Deck, don’t use a Blight Card if its Blighted Island side has 2 Blight per player or only immediate effects. (Without an Event Deck to provide occasional Blighted Island Events, Blight Cards with beneficial or non-ongoing effects become much lower-risk.)

  • You can either pull those cards out before shuffling, or redraw if you get one.
Still-Healthy Island Cards are fine, though staying Healthy has less game impact.
