=Helpful Tips & Important Details=

I'm brand new to Spirit Island, so where should I start?

If you don't yet own Spirit Island, the first thing you should buy is, of course, one of the standalone games.

  • Spirit Island is the original base game and supports up to four players. It includes eight Spirits and several Adversaries which provide the opportunity to tackle a variety of game experiences and customize the difficulty to your liking. Compared to Horizons of Spirit Island, the original base game has a higher price point but has a much wider variety of content.
  • Horizons of Spirit Island has the same rules as the base game, making it 100% compatible with the rest of the Spirit Island collection. Compared to the Spirit Island base game, Horizons of Spirit Island is a much gentler introduction into the game with its low price point and its five well-designed low-complexity Spirits. Note that unlike the original Spirit Island, it does not include any options to customize the difficulty and it only supports up to three players.

I'm interested in buying an expansion, but which should I buy?

If you only own the base game and you're looking into buying an expansion, there are many available to choose from. If you want additional information on exactly what each expansion provides, follow the links to their wiki pages by clicking on the expansion name.

If you only own Horizons and want to buy an expansion, it is highly recommended that you get Spirit Island first to get access to components you wouldn't have otherwise, like the Island Boards and the Adversaries and Scenarios, and moderate- and high-complexity Spirits in addition to low-complexity ones.

Besides that, it mainly depends on what you're looking for in an expansion:

  • If you want to expand your gameplay content, get either Branch and Claw or Jagged Earth. Most importantly, these expansions introduce the Tokens and Events, and they also provide more Spirits, Adversaries, and Scenarios to greatly increase challenge options and replayability. They also increase the balance of the Minor Power deck (in terms of element pairs and effects provided) when compared to the base game alone; adding both of these expansions results in the most balanced Minor Power deck.
  • If you already own Jagged Earth and want to get more variety out of the content you already have, get Nature Incarnate. In addition to new Spirits, this expansion adds a large number of Aspects that allow you to play the Spirits you already own in new ways.
  • If all you want is new Spirits without any other major changes in gameplay, get Feather and Flame (for high-complexity Spirits and a few Aspects) or Horizons of Spirit Island (for low-complexity Spirits).

=Language Differences=

Some languages have differences in how they've distributed Spirit Island's content, and might not have all of the expansions available for purchase. This list may be incomplete.

French

Intrafin Games, the French publisher, does not distribute Feather and Flame. Instead, the contents for Promo Pack 1 are included in Branch and Claw and the contents for Promo Pack 2, along with a corrected Spirit Panel for Heart of the Wildfire, are included in Jagged Earth.

German

Pegasus Spiele, the German publisher, does not distribute Feather and Flame. Instead, they provide five separate Promo Packs for Heart of the Wildfire (Seele des Flächenbrands), Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island (Unter der Insel schlummernde Schlange), Finder of Paths Unseen (Finder unsichtbarer Wege), Downpour Drenches the World (Sturzregen durchnässt die Welt), and Scotland, two Scenarios, Scotland's 4 Reminder Tiles, 5 Aspects, and 5 Fear Cards (Nation Schottland, Szenarien und Kartenerweiterung).
